What are you waiting for?

Over recent weeks, I have been reminded of the power of taking action on an idea as soon as possible. It is what you do that matters not what you are thinking of doing and the more quickly you take action the more quickly you will see results. Right?

Too often great ideas are generated and not acted upon quickly. Without rapid action and first steps being taken to get things moving, either the enthusiasm for the idea starts to wane or the idea is over analysed; either way, the idea never comes to fruition.

Another common reason for not taking action, is the belief that we can put something off to some indefinite date in the future. I was reminded of this over the weekend when I picked up a paper and flipped to the centre pages where there was a story of a terminally ill lady who was busily knocking items off her “bucket list” before the inevitable happened. A valiant thing to do and I applaud her.

However, it also saddens me that most people need to have such a dramatic life event before they start to chase their dreams and do things that they really want to do. Wouldn’t it be much better to do these things and enjoy them without the spectre of death hanging over you?

Whether it is the great idea or the experience of a lifetime from your “bucket list”, remove the delay between the idea and starting to take action. I would encourage you to write your bucket list/”best ever to do” list now and put plans in place so that you can start to experience and enjoy items from the list now. Make a start; select one item you can complete in the next 90 days, one within the next 6-12 months and maybe one that you can complete in the next two years and take it from there. Get a plan in place and take the first step straight away.

An imperfect plan, violently executed today, is better than a perfect plan executed at some indefinite point in the future – – G. Patton
