Planning for success…are you making these 3 fundamental mistakes that stop you achieving your goals?

If you read through the various Planning for Success posts on my blog, read many of the books or websites on achieving success you will see that there is a good body of evidence that points to the fact that successful people in all fields know exactly what they want to achieve, have a very clear vision of what success will look like.

If you are looking to improve your chances of success or are not achieving what you wishing to, are you making these 3 fundamental mistakes that stop you achieving your goals? If you are, I have also included some tips on what to do instead

Mistake 1 – not having any goals!

As stated above successful people have a very clear idea of what they want to achieve, where they want their lives to go; they have goals. So the first question is… Have you got any goals? If not…
tip: very few people share what to do next… what to do instead

Here is what to do instead: Create your goals!

Create a clear picture of what what to achieve and write down your goals. Take a look at my post Planning for Success: Steps 2 – Goals for more information about how to go about doing that.

Mistake 2 – not making the goal compelling

If your goal does not excite you or drive a desire for you to achieve it, it is highly unlikely that you will find the motivation to carry it through or take action to achieve it.

What to do instead: make the goal compelling and attractive

Goals should be compelling and excite you. They should stir your emotions. The more you want the outcome, the more desirable the result is, the more likely you are to commit to it and achieve the outcome.
What to do instead: make the goal compelling and attractive

Mistake 3 – not being specific!

As I said earlier, successful people have a very clear idea or picture of what they want to achieve. If your goal is wishy washy, vague and has not detail once again it is unlikely you will achieve what you want

What to do instead: make the goal specific

The more specific detail, including what you might see, feel, hear, dates the better. This really gets your subconscious tuned in and focussing on opportunities for you. Take a look at this post Your personal success multitool – The Reticular Activating System to find out more.

By doing these three things, you can significantly improve your chances of achieving what you wish to. Having a coach to help you formulate your goals and hold you accountable for taking action will also assist you to achieve success
